Before the implant comes a personalised plan. Dental implant planning combines an examination, appropriate imaging and the design of the replacement teeth. It helps your dentist decide whether implants are suitable, where they should be placed, and whether bone preparation or a staged approach is needed.
At American Dental Implants & Smile Clinic in Financial District, Nanakramguda, Hyderabad, treatment planning brings your oral health, proposed replacement teeth and personal priorities into one conversation.
Dr. Srikanth Cherukadu, DMD, is a Boston University-trained dentist with more than 15 years of clinical experience in the United States. Our approach begins with understanding what you hope to change, rather than choosing an implant before understanding your needs.
What Happens at a Dental Implant Consultation?
An implant consultation includes a review of your medical and dental history, an examination of your teeth and gums, and appropriate imaging.
Tell us what matters most: eating comfortably, replacing a visible gap, addressing an unstable denture, or exploring a more extensive restoration. Your discussion should cover suitable treatment options, alternatives to implants, expected stages, risks and limitations.
You should also understand which decisions can be made at the consultation and which depend on further assessment.
What Does a 3D CBCT Scan Show?

Cone beam computed tomography, or CBCT, provides three-dimensional images of the teeth and jaws.
In implant planning, it helps assess bone height, width and shape, together with the position of structures such as the lower-jaw nerve canal and upper-jaw sinuses.
A CBCT scan uses X-rays. It should answer a clinical question, with the examination tailored to the information required rather than used automatically at every dental visit.
From the Proposed Teeth to Ongoing Care
Why Plan the Replacement Teeth Before the Implants?
The implant is a foundation; the restoration is the tooth or set of teeth it supports. Planning therefore needs to connect the proposed teeth with the available bone, rather than treating implant placement as an isolated procedure.
For patients, this means asking about the finished result from the beginning: the intended appearance, function and ongoing care. At our clinic, digital planning supports that conversation alongside your clinical assessment.
How Does Guided Implant Surgery Fit Into the Plan?
In suitable cases, a custom surgical guide helps transfer the planned implant position into the surgical procedure. The guide and surgical approach are selected for the individual case.
Digital planning and guided surgery are related, but they are not identical. A digital plan does not mean every patient requires a guide. Guides also have limitations and do not replace clinical judgement or guarantee an outcome.
Will Treatment Involve Grafting or Temporary Teeth?
Some patients have sufficient supporting bone; others may need bone grafting or a sinus-related procedure before or alongside implant treatment.
Your anatomy and proposed restoration determine the sequence. Placing an implant and attaching a replacement tooth are separate decisions. An early restoration is possible in selected circumstances; other cases require a healing period. Suitability depends on patient and site factors, including the stability of the implant.
Ask whether any early teeth will be temporary or definitive, when the final restoration is expected, and what might change the plan. A provisional restoration is not the same as completing treatment.
How Are Dental Implants Cared for Afterwards?
Implants need daily cleaning and regular professional review. Follow-up visits assess the implants, surrounding gums and remaining teeth, and help tailor your home-care routine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Scan Alone Confirm That I Am Suitable for Implants?
No. Imaging is one part of the assessment. Medical history, an examination of the teeth and gums, and the proposed restoration also inform the decision.
Does Everyone Need Bone Grafting?
No. Grafting depends on the available bone and the planned implant position. Your clinician will explain whether site preparation is appropriate in your case.
Are Same-Day Teeth Always the Final Teeth?
No. Early teeth may be provisional. Ask which restoration is planned, whether you are suitable for early loading, and when the definitive teeth would be provided.
What Should I Bring to My Consultation?
Bring a current medication list, relevant dental records and any existing scans or reports. Also note the questions and treatment goals you would like to discuss.
How Should NRI Patients Plan Their Visits?
Discuss travel dates before committing to a schedule. Ask which stages require in-person visits, whether interim teeth are planned, and how follow-up will be arranged after returning home.
